Jan-Cedric Hansen, Frank Van Trimpont, and Sevan Gerard convened in Paris for the kickoff meeting of the WADEM PARIS 2027 global conference, hosted in collaboration with PARIS Je T'aime and GL Events. While the agenda focused on planning, logistics, and event coordination, the discussions went far beyond operations. The team explored innovations in the use of artificial intelligence in disaster health, the integration of emerging theories in research methodologies, and new approaches to global collaboration across disciplines in disaster and emergency medicine. This meeting marked the official launch of what promises to be a groundbreaking and inclusive global event.
As part of the ongoing activities of the Disaster Health Institute (DHI), three key leaders—Virginia Murray, Qudsia Huda, and Sevan Gerard—met in Geneva during the 2025 UNDRR Global Platform to align efforts and strengthen the global disaster health agenda.
Virginia Murray, a globally recognized expert in health risk science and one of the shortlisted candidates for the 2025 Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction, joined Qudsia Huda, Head of Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience at WHO, and Sevan Gerard, General Secretary of WADEM-EU and co-founder of disaster.health, as well as several other key leaders in DRR, for a high-level discussion focused on advancing the transdisciplinary approach at the heart of DHI’s mission.
The meeting underscored shared priorities: integrating disaster medicine with public health, promoting anticipatory action, advancing complexity science in disaster response, and ensuring inclusive governance across systems. These themes reflect the core values of DHI and its commitment to bridging science, policy, and practice for stronger global resilience.
